1. Why was this Local Government Study Commission created?

Under Article XI, Section 9 of the Montana Constitution, every 10 years a local government must review their form of government. On June 3, 2014 Ravalli County residents voted for the creation of the Local Government Study Commission.

3. Can I attend the meetings?

All meetings are open to the public.

4. When are the meetings?

Meetings will be held every Tuesday from 1 - 4 p.m. through the end of March. Dates after March will be announced. Check the website for location.

5. How were the Commission members selected?

On November 4, 2014, the voters of Ravalli County elected five Local Government Study Commissioners out of 19 candidates.

6. What is an ex officio member?

An ex officio is appointed by the local governing body (the Board of County Commissioners) to serve as a nonvoting member and a liaison between the Study Commissioners and the local government. Under MCA 7-3-177(2), the ex officio must be a member of the governing body, or an elected official or employee of the local government. The ex officio serves as a source of knowledge on County operations, coordinates technical assistance and assists with other matters deemed necessary by the Study Commissioners.
