Sheriff's Citizens Academy
The Sheriff’s Office uses a variety of methods to build relationships within the community we serve. The Sheriff Citizen’s Academy will introduce community members to functions and activities within the Sheriff’s Office. A Sheriff Citizen’s Academy offers an opportunity to describe law enforcement the way it really is….not the television version, but give our own local, real-life version of how we go about doing our job. The Sheriff Citizen’s Academy provides an opportunity for Ravalli County Citizens to better understand law enforcement work, and is another tool for us to inform the public and obtain citizen input. The Sheriff Citizen’s Academy can provide stronger citizen-deputy relationship and enhance lines of communication.
To apply for the Sheriff Citizens Academy, please pick up an application from the RCSO or you may view and download the application form here.
WHAT IS THE SHERIFF CITIZENS ACADEMY?
The Sheriff Citizen’s Academy is an eight week course designed to familiarize citizens with various aspects of their local Sheriff’s Office, such as administrative philosophy, how their Sheriff’s Office operates, and the challenges our community faces. The Sheriff Citizen’s Academy will consist of classroom and hands on training.
The program covers procedures from patrol and investigations, domestic violence, use of force, defensive tactics, and Detention Center operations, as well as drug education and other operational tasks. The curriculum does not fulfill State of Montana certification requirements for peace officers.
